Hello,
I'm still working on the philips cameras support on the new kernels. The pwc driver available with the
ubuntu 12.04 LTS is bugged and imcomplete. Our cameras won't work on this release. If you really
need to use your webcam, I recommend you to use the last kernel 2.6 release, with the ubuntu 10.04 LTS and
qastrocam-g2_beta20110115.
I'm really sorry...
Best regards
Hello !
I found a very low cost B/W camera for planetary imaging on ebay. Follow this link : link
I just received my new toy yesterday. It's Point Grey Research FireFly MV, with an 1/3" CMOS with global shutter, able to reach 30 to 60 frames per second (8 bits or 10 bits).
Dynamic range is nice, high sensitivity in near IR, low noise, but a lot of hot pixel. This sensor should be cooled. Max exposure is about 1/7.5 fps. Ambiante temperature is about 28°C
Raw image :
100 frames stacked without dark :
Dark :
100 frames stacked (median) with dark substraction :
As you can see, a lot of hot pixels, but very low read noise.

Hello !
I use qastrocam-g2 on my laptop, but also on my netbook. 1024*600 is really tiny. If you want smaller windows for qastrocam-g2, you can use "qt3-config", with the "Polymer" style. Just install these two packages, and choose "Polymer"
once qt3-config is running.
Qastrocam-g2 "old style" :
Qastrocam-g2 "new style" :

The QHY5 peltier tec cooling is on the way. I'm waiting for my new module to arrive.
I updated my page a bit : Cooling the QHY5 imager/autoguider (step 2)

Hi !
I'm working a bit on qastrocam-g2. A new beta is available. The qwtplot3d library isn't needed anymore. It compils on
ubuntu 12.04 LTS (V4L1 access removed). I'm still working on the Philips cameras support over V4L2.
The 4.9 release won't add any new features. I just want the actual features to work on fresh kernels. QT4 migration is planned for the 5.0 release.
Best regards !
Hi !
Sorry, I'm still very busy, so qastrocam-g2 isn't maintained any more. Canonical introduced many changes in the last Ubuntu release, and qastrocam-g2 is getting harder and harder to run on this distribution. If you want to use qastrocam-g2 on the last Ubuntu LTS (12.04), you have to install the libqwt3dplot library. This library can't be found in the default repositories. It can be found in this page : link
Once this library installed, the last qastrocam-g2 4.8 binaries should work. Sadly, the Toucam and the QHY5 cams won't work. I will have to rewrite some stuff.
Best regards !
